I spent two weeks in Skopelos with a friend and her family. The first day at the beach, I opened up my notebook I wrote a little piece about swimming in the ocean. I thought I would share it with you. It’s a little different to the usual stuff on here, and you can find a separate blog on Skoeplos itself here.
It’s weightless. You relax, put your trust in the water and it carries you back. You don’t have to move – just float.
Surrounded by blue. Underneath your feet. The sky in front of you and, of course, the water all around you. Though it’s not quite blue. That would be too simple. It’s navy, melting in to dark teal, to a light turquoise, in to a rippling crystal blue.
You forget places like this exist outside the frame of a postcard.
It is irresistible.
As soon as you arrive, you peel off your clothes and wade in wearing your swimsuit. It is surprisingly cold but as soon as it washes over your shoulders you start to swim.
Soon you surrounded by blue. Underneath your feet. The sky in front of you and, of course, the water all around you.
